John Taylor & Co. is the largest bell foundry in the world. The company continues a line of bell founding which has been unbroken since Johannes De Stafford in the middle of the 14th Century. The current Grade 2 listed building was established on its current site in 1839, and is one of the few Victorian purpose built manufacturing sites still being used for its original function.
The company manufactures bells for use in clock towers, change ringing peals, chimes, and carillons and their list of notable bells include: Gozo Cathedral, Liverpool Cathedral bourdon bell “Great George” the second largest bell in Britain, Carlisle Cathedral, WWII Memorial Carillon, University of Kansas USA, Iowa State University, Ames USA, Luray Singing Tower USA, Wells Cathedral (2 bells cast in 1877), and AC/DC’s “Hells Bell” which was originally used on the “Back In Black” tour, 1980.
