About Leicester Lo-Fi Photography

We promote fine art and traditional photographic processes, through the provision of specialist knowledge and facilities, education and exhibitions.

We started in 2011 with no place to call a home, but we managed to hold workshops and events at any place that would have us, and let us convert toilets and cupboards into darkrooms.

After a few years of nomadically wandering around leicester we decided to build a community darkroom, we found an idea location, an unused craft centre at the Manor House off Narborough Road. We set up our darkroom and teaching/communal spaces and waited for folks turn up – and they did, our membership base grew, as did the amount of kit we were acquiring. But all good things tend not to last, in April 2017, we were forced to vacate the Manor House and we started to look for a new darkroom space straight away. In December of the same year we opened our new darkroom at 376A Western Road  – we spent a happy 2 years at Western Road, but time came again to move on, we had outgrown the space and needed somewhere bigger (and cheaper). We quickly found a new home and in September 2019 started building a new darkroom space in the basement of the Methodist Church on Bishop Street. We opened on 29th July 2021.

We’re a very social group and our evening sessions and workshops are very relaxed and informal, and a great place to come and learn new skills and techniques you might have never heard of.

Workshops, Socials & Festivals:

We run workshops on all things analogue including, darkroom, pinhole, sunprints, salt printing, cyanotypes, mordencage, polaroid lifts, and anything else we think is cool. Several times a year we will have socials, which could be anything from a gathering in a pub a trip or an event around the country.

We have taken part in several festivals in the last few years, including;

Lets-do-Saturdays –  LCB, Leicester

Memories of the Future Festival – Nottingham

London Analogue Festival – London

Format Festival – Derby

Sparks Festival – Leicester

Notts Creative Festival – Nottingham

ArtBeat Festival – Leicester

Handmade Festival – Leicester

Art Trail – Leicester

Riverside Festival – Leicester

We have run workshops for the Attenborough Arts Centre, LCB, The Phoenix Arts and The Malt Cross in Nottingham.

We can also turn our hand to big budget, large scale workshops/events, including  METRO-BOULOT-DODO
